What is micro-needling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that treats skin concerns by stimulating collagen production. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this treatment creates micro-punctures in the skin using a state-of-the-art medical grade micro-needling device with a topical skin care regime.
Microneedling is used to infuse moisture, vitamins and antioxidants to your skin while stimulating cell proliferation and stimulating the formation of new collagen. This minimally invasive procedure is clinically proven to reduce the look of scars and stretch marks, minimize wrinkles, improve the quality and texture of your skin and treat acne as well as cystic acne.
Microneedling can improve:
- the appearance of scars, including acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles
- enlarged pores
- the appearance of hyperpigmentation, or dark spots
- uneven skin tone
- skin elasticity
- the appearance of stretch marks
- hair growth in people with alopecia
How does Microneedling work?
Microneedling stimulates the skin by creating tiny punctures, prompting it to produce fresh collagen-rich tissue. This promotes a more even tone and smoother texture. As we age or experience skin damage, collagen diminishes, affecting firmness. Our clinicians may suggest combining microneedling with treatments like topical serums, radiofrequency, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to enhance results.
What to expect during the procedure?
What to expect after the procedure?
After a procedure, your skin may be red and flushed in appearance like the appearance of a moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch. This will diminish quickly and subside within 48-72 hours. Some patients heal completely in 24 hours.
Utilizing appropriate post treatment products can aid the healing process. Some patients only require a single treatment once a year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For patients with more significant skin-care concerns, such as acne scars, it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.
When will I see results and when can I return to everyday activities?
Results from Collagen Induction Therapy (microneedling) can be seen immediately. Your skin will look instantly rejuvenated—but that’s only the beginning. Studies show that microneedling can improve the production of your skin’s collagen and elastin up to six months following multiple treatments. Your clinical specialist will recommend a series of sessions to maximize your results.
Who is a good candidate?
This minimally invasive, non-ablative, non-surgical, cosmetic procedure is safe and effective on all skin types without the risk of discolouration. Some people have found it to be effective in treating specific conditions, like acne or frown marks.
You may not be an ideal candidate for microneedling if you:
- have certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis or eczema
- have open wounds or active acne
Are there any risks or side effects?
A common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness for a few days.
Some people may have severe side effects that need medical treatment, such as:
- bleeding
- bruising
- infection
- peeling
